Apology from The Knox Student

In the February 21, 2008 issue of The Knox Student, a harmful and inappropriate column was printed in the sports section on page 15 titled, “Racism? Nah, just some truth”.

As editor of this publication, I am ashamed at our bad judgment in allowing this piece to be published. I have no excuses to offer. It was horrible, and I cannot apologize enough to make it better. What actions will be taken as a result of this mistake are not known yet. The Editorial Staff will be looking long and hard at ourselves, our policies and procedures. But we did not want to wait before sending this apology to the campus community.

All I can say is that we have contributed to racism on this campus, and it is shameful and indefensible. We will keep you updated as decisions are made, and I am sure there will be more conversation about this for a long time to come.

On behalf of the Editorial Staff,

Tom Fucoloro

Editor-In-Chief, The Knox Student
