Rutledge to make consecutive trips to NCAA Championships

Senior Jaran Rutledge will be making the trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 7 to compete in the National Championships for a second year in a row. Rutledge, Knox’s first All-American wrestler, managed a third-place national finish in last year’s competition and will look to improve upon that this year.

Rutledge finished in second-place in this year’s regional competition at St. John’s University in Minnesota. Making his way through the first three rounds of competition, Rutledge was refused retention of the regional title he claimed last year, losing a double-overtime tiebreaker in the championship round to Elmhurst College’s Mark Corsello.

The top contenders from each weight class advance to the NCAA Division III National Championships. Rutledge will be a heavyweight representative for Knox College and the Midwest Conference.

The NCAA Division III National Championships will be co-hosted by Coe and Cornell Colleges in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Competition begins on Friday, March 7 at 9 a.m.
