Women’s soccer looks forward to rest of 2008 season

The Knox women will next face Lawrence University at home on Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. Assistant coach John Baillie was optimistic about the upcoming game against Lawrence.

“Lawrence is a comparable team to us,” said Baillie. The team is looking forward to the game and hopes to come out with another win to swing momentum back to the Knox women’s favor.

Baillie commented on the team’s progress, saying “The season has gone really well. Even though the team hasn’t seen results in the win-loss column, the players have played well and every game is competitive.”

When asked on how the team felt about their 2-1 victory against Illinois College to gain their first win of the season, Baillie said, “It was pretty awesome. There was joy on the team and the players were pretty happy to break through.”

Certainly the coaching staff looks to use this to instill a winning attitude in their players, and help them overcome the adversity that has surfaced during their off week.

The women’s team was whittled down to eight players when six upperclassmen left the team: one sophomore, one junior and four seniors. Baillie chose not to comment about the state of his players. The Prairie Fire is currently tied for 6th in the conference at one win and one loss, and seven of the team’s eight remaining games are against conference opponents. The team will look to move up in the conference standings with a win on Saturday.
