Indoor track teams compete in Hilltop Open

With the Midwest Conference (MWC) meet only two weeks away, the pressure is on the Prairie Fire Indoor track team. Co-Head Coach Dan Zierfuss is expecting a great meet, which will take place in Knox’s own T. Fleming Fieldhouse.

Last Saturday, the team traveled to Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa to compete in the Hilltop Open. The Hilltop Open included 20 teams resulting in the meet being an un-scored event.

Some standout performances from the meet included junior Adam Kent who finished fifth in both the men’s shot put and weight throw. Kent had a personal best in the shot put and continued to break his own school record in the weight throw.

“On the distance side there were some great performances in the 3000-meter run,” Zierfuss said.

These performances included freshman Brenna DeGan who was faster by 25 seconds and took 12th place and junior Mary Purrazzo took 27th. On the men’s side, there was a great performance in the 3000-meter run by junior Ryan Maniscalco, who placed fifth.

The team is improving every week as they approach the MWC finals. Their next meet will be at home on Saturday at 10 a.m. for the Knox Invitational.
