The function of BIP

As it pertains to The Knox Student, Knox College’s student-run newspaper, the Broadcast, Internet, and Publications Committee serves to ensure that student editors have the freedom to produce an uncensored newspaper, so long as that publication conforms with legal and community norms. As per its constitution, updated in May 2009, “The primary function of the Committee shall be to act as the guarantor both of the editorial freedom of student media and of their adherence to canons of responsible practice.” As of Fall 2008, BIP is a standing committee of the faculty, with three faculty members and two student members. Any concerns contributors or readers may have regarding the operation of TKS in relation to BIP’s mandate should be addressed to the current chair, Neil Blackadder.
