Greek Column: Risk management and Greek Week

This is the first edition of the IFC Greek column. Every week, this column will bring news about different aspects of Greek life here at Knox. We will be keeping you informed of events related to Greek life and the Greek system. We will inform you about upcoming events and recent developments, with an eye for keeping you abreast of just what is going on here on the Knox campus.

Recently, the IFC has been working hard on making significant strides forward. First and foremost, IFC and fraternity risk managers have worked together to develop a new, universal risk management policy for campus fraternities. A primary goal throughout this process has consistently been to reassure the Knox student body that the Greek system is continually and actively concerned for the safety and comfort of the entire student body. While we are still currently in the process of finalizing this new policy, we are very confident in it. There will be an opportunity, at a later date, to be determined for interested parties to discuss the new policy.

In addition, we are now revising and working on passing a brand-new Code of Conduct that would apply to all fraternity members. Again, the goal being to help to ensure that all members of fraternities on campus are held to a standard of behavior.

In two weeks, fraternity and sorority teams will be participating in the annual Triple Play softball event, which will be raising money for St. Jude’s. The event will be sponsored by Delta Delta Delta and will take place on May 2. This year, for the first time, the Triple play will be open to teams from the entire student body, not just the Greek system.

Currently, members of IFC and the Panhellenic Council have been working to plan out this year’s upcoming Greek Week. A schedule has been laid out for the week of May 1, with a number of daily activities already planned. More information will be made available as Greek Week approaches.

Every week we will be looking to bring you more information about what is going on within Knox’s Greek system. We want to know what it is that you want to hear about. Please feel free to contact us.
