Singer-songwriter Ben Kweller has been making music since he was 12, first performing with the band Radish and later building a solo career that has seen four full-length albums released. Brought to Knox by popular vote amongst Union Board members, Ben Kweller is one of the most well known musical acts to perform at Knox in recent history. So how does a college such as Knox schedule a performer like Kweller? According to Assistant Director of Campus Life Jil Gates, head advisor for the Union Board, all it takes is making contact with the musician’s agent and then an agreement on a financial offer. So will we be seeing more musical acts such as Kweller in the future? Union Board is currently looking to have at least one musical performer each trimester. Although each performance can’t live up to everyone’s musical tastes, Gates plans to “try to encompass all styles of music (throughout the span of a year) for the school population.”
With this exciting event planned to conclude a great week of homecoming events, Knox students are not only looking for a way to wind down the weekend, but also to discover new music. Unfortunately, most students won’t have heard Ben Kweller’s music before Saturday’s performance, so it ought to be a stimulating musical experience for all who attend.
