Former Dean of Students Xavier Romano has found a new job with the Habib University Foundation, sources say.
According to its website, the Habib University Foundation (HUF) is a philanthropic organization based in Karachi, Pakistan that supports “educational initiatives, research and innovation.” Its achievements include establishing Habib University and the Institute for Advancing Careers and Talents.
Jordan,* a Knox alum, received an email from Romano last week explaining that he would soon be leaving the United States to accept a position in Pakistan with HUF.
“He still keeps in touch with some of us,” Jordan said.
It was announced during March 2010 that Romano had been placed on administrative leave from Knox. Reasons were not provided, but concerns had been raised about his handling of sexual assault cases. On April 21, 2010, President Roger Taylor sent out a campus-wide email announcing Romano’s resignation. The email cited family and personal issues as reasons for his resignation. His time at Knox lasted almost 12 years.
On April 30, 2010, The Linfield Review wrote that Romano was a finalist for the position of Dean of Students at Linfield College in McMinnville, OR. The Review article also highlighted the controversy surrounding Romano’s departure from Knox. He was ultimately not hired for the position.
Romano was unreachable for comment.
