Feb. 19

10:15 a.m., LOST OR MISPLACED ITEM, main campus grounds — A student reported losing a purse containing a Knox student ID.

9:45 p.m., INFORMATION, 368 S. Prairie St. — Campus Safety responded to a report of a subject seen on South Street trying to flag down vehicles.

Feb. 20

12:20 a.m., INFORMATION, Seymour Hall — Campus Safety responded to a complaint of smoking in a student room. The incident was referred to the Office of Student Development.

Feb. 22

3:36 p.m., CANNABIS VIOLATION, Neifert Hall — Campus Safety responded to a report of a strong cannabis smell. The incident was referred to OSD.

Feb. 23

4:45 a.m., INFORMATION, Hamblin Hall — A Campus Safety officer on routine patrol observed a student smoking in Hamblin Hall. The incident was referred to OSD.

9:30 a.m., INFORMATION, 542 S. West St. — Maintenance personnel were called in to check a furnace after an unusual hot smell was reportedly coming from it. A work order was submitted.

9:05 p.m., ALCOHOL VIOLATION, Tau Kappa Epsilon — An underage student was found in possession of alcohol. The incident was referred to OSD.

11:35 p.m., ALCOHOL VIOLATION, Peterson House — Campus Safety officers on routine patrol found an unregistered event with alcohol in progress. The incident was referred to OSD.

Feb. 25

8:50 p.m., SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT, off-campus location — Campus Safety received a report of a suspicious person at an off-campus business.

Charlie Megenity (formerly Gorney) is a senior double majoring in political science and economics. He previously served TKS as managing editor and as co-news editor while working as the weekend reporter for The Galesburg Register-Mail. Over the summer of 2012, Charlie interned in Wisconsin with Patch.com, an online hyperlocal news source, where he covered the August 2012 Oak Creek Sikh temple shooting; he will return to Patch during the summer of 2013. He is also the journalism editor for Catch magazine.. Charlie has received three awards from the Illinois College Press Association for newswriting and design, including a first place award for front page layout. He was the 2013 recipient of the Theodore Hazen Kimble Memorial Award in Journalism for a feature story published in The Knox Student. His work has also appeared in The Huffington Post.
