Junior Weston Chenoweth earned the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week after setting both career and Knox-bests at the University of Dubuque Open over the weekend.
The award makes Chenoweth the first Knox outdoor track and field performer to be named MWC Performer of the Week in six years, and the first male to receive the award since Ben Loy did in April of 2004.
Chenoweth set his career-best in discus with a toss of 139’ 9”, which earned him first place in the field of 20 competitors in the event. His throw was almost 4 1/2 feet longer than anyone else’s in the event, and Chenoweth toppled his own career best by 7’ 8”.
The throw was good enough to move him up to #6 on the Knox men’s outdoor track and field all-time top ten individual list in discus. Chenoweth also finished second in shot put, scoring more points for Knox.
Senior Sean Choate won another event for the men, finishing first in the 5000 meter run. In addition to that, there were several top three performances for the Prairie Fire: along with Choate and Chenoweth, senior Dan Johnson came in second in the hammer throw and senior Lizzy Warner finished second in the 400 meter dash.
The men finished sixth at the Open, and the women finished seventh. Track and Field’s next event is in Beloit for the Beloit Relays on April 26 and April 27.
