Campus Safety Log April 20 – May 5: Flunk Day day and its aftermath

3:05 a.m., CRIMINAL TRESPASSING, Phi Gamma Delta — A subject was arrested for criminal trespassing after being told by Galesburg police to stay off campus.

3:15 a.m., DOMESTIC, Seymour Hall — The Galesburg Police Department and Campus Safety responded to a report of an altercation outside Seymour Hall. The incident was referred to the Office of Student Development.

7 p.m., THEFT, Main campus grounds — A bike was reported stolen from a bike rack.

9:10 p.m., INFORMATION, Main campus grounds — Campus Safety responded to a report of students digging in the area of the quads. The incident was referred to OSD.

May 1

8:25 a.m., ALCOHOL VIOLATION, Main campus grounds — A student requested assistance getting back to a residence after consuming too much alcohol. The incident was referred to OSD.

9 a.m., MISCHIEVOUS CONDUCT, Main campus grounds — A beer bong was confiscated from a student walking near the quads. The incident was referred to OSD.

9:10 a.m., MISCHIEVOUS CONDUCT, Hamblin Hall — Students were observed writing in chalk on the exterior of the building. The incident was referred to OSD.

11:20 a.m., UNWANTED SUBJECT, Main campus grounds — Two subjects were asked to leave campus.

11:30 a.m., ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE, Wilson House — A window was broken by students kicking a soccer ball. A work order was submitted.

3 p.m., CRIMINAL DAMAGE, Hamblin Hall — An outside light fixture was damaged, and a work order was submitted.

4:10 p.m., MISCHIEVOUS CONDUCT, Conger Hall — Campus Safety received a complaint of a subject yelling derogatory comments out of a window. The incident was referred to OSD.

7:20 p.m., MEDICAL, Sigma Chi — A student was transported for treatment of alcohol over-consumption.

7:45 p.m., MEDICAL, Sherwin Hall — A student reported an ankle injury. The incident was referred to OSD.

May 4

2:22 p.m., INFORMATION, Hamblin Hall — A student reported vehicle damage from another driver striking a parked car.

May 5

3:20 a.m., INFORMATION, Kappa Kappa Gamma — Campus Safety checked the house after receiving a report of suspicious activity there.

3:30 p.m., THEFT, Neifert Hall — Student keys were taken from the laundry room.

9 p.m., SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT, Seymour Hall — Campus Safety responded to a report of suspicious subjects near the Gizmo.

Over the summer of 2012, Charlie interned in Wisconsin with Patch.com, an online hyperlocal news source, where he covered the August 2012 Oak Creek Sikh temple shooting; he will return to Patch during the summer of 2013. He is also the journalism editor for Catch magazine.. Charlie has received three awards from the Illinois College Press Association for newswriting and design, including a first place award for front page layout. He was the 2013 recipient of the Theodore Hazen Kimble Memorial Award in Journalism for a feature story published in The Knox Student. His work has also appeared in The Huffington Post.
