Restrictions on phone use and an increased speed limit are two of the new traffic laws that became effective in the state of Illinois as of the first of the year.
According to WGN TV, based in Chicago, Illinois drivers will have to use hands-free cell phone technology when they’re on the roads. Drivers who cause accidents because of cell phone use will face increased penalties. An exception is made for emergency phone calls.
Also in effect is an increased speed limit of 70 mph on some Illinois highways. Those include parts of I-55, I-74, I-80 and I-88.
These laws are only two of over 200 laws all effective Jan. 1. For a full list, click here.
