Luciano Antonio visits Knox, leads workshop on Brazilian samba

Brazilian singer and guitarist Luciano Antonio visited Knox Saturday, Jan. 11 for a percussion workshop and performance in Kresge Recital Hall.

The event was the first in the Winter Jazz Series.

Raised in rural Brazil and a graduate of University of Missouri-Kansas City, Antonio focuses on Brazilian samba. At the workshop, students learned to play various Brazilian instruments, such as the tamborim, agogo, and the shaker.

She is the recipient of a second place award from the Illinois College Press Association for photo essay.
