Women’s Soccer have been on a roll this season, making their way to the top of the MWC on a 10-1-2 overall record and a 3-0-2 record in conference. Freshman goalkeeper Sierra Daniger has had a large part in helping the team make its climb to the top.
This past Saturday, Knox College Women’s Soccer faced off against Ripon College. Starting at goalkeeper, Daniger played the full 90 minutes, picked up four saves and didn’t allow any goals throughout the game. Knox pulled away with a 1-0 victory thanks largely to well-played defense.
The very next day, Knox had another conference game against Lawrence University. After a goal in the first half for the Prairie Fire and a pair of saves by Daniger, Knox came away with another shutout win in conference, pushing our ladies’ team to the top of the conference standings.
Daniger’s performances this past weekend have earned her the title of TKS Player of the Week, as well as MWC Defensive Player of the Week. Daniger on average has allowed less than one goal for each start and has recorded a total of 37 saves throughout this season. Having started 11 games this season, Daniger has gone 8-1-2; with the two shutouts this weekend, she has a total of four on the season.
Daniger comes to Knox from Colorado Springs, Colo., where she attended Air Academy. She also plays for the club team Pride United.
The women square off against St. Norbert College this upcoming weekend in De Pere, Wisconsin, with Carroll College and Beloit the following weekend. The Prairie Fire are 3-0-1 away this season and look to improve their record on the road.
