TKS Player of the Week

There’s no denying that Knox softball has had a difficult season; before the second game of a doubleheader they had lost 29 straight, and were coming off a 16-0 loss to Beloit. That, however, is when sophomore Alannah Sanchez put the team on her back, and the effort the team had been showcasing all season came to fruition.

After back-to-back outings in which Sanchez had a difficult time on the mound, giving up a combined total of 33 runs, Sanchez locked in and pitched a complete game for the Prairie Fire, allowing only one run and four hits. As if that weren’t enough, Sanchez provided timely offense as well. Her sole hit, a double, came at a crucial moment in the bottom of the seventh, scoring junior Chelsey Howard and earning Knox their first victory of the season in walk-off fashion.

Sanchez was able to work out of a number of jams over the course of the game, including having runners on the corners with only one out in the top of the seventh, at which point she recorded one of her two strikeouts on the day and then showed off her glovework on the mound, retiring the third batter on a ground ball back to her.

Coming off the momentum of their first win of the season, Knox will hope to capitalize with a pair of games against third place Carroll University. The Prairie Fire will then close out their against Ripon College.
