Sophomore Kobe Shutter has been a key component to the Prairie Fire’s baseball team. Shutter showcased his skill during baseball’s big win against Robert Morris University-Peoria. With five at-bats, two runs and three hits, Shutter helped the Fire achieve the 12-2 victory. He also led the team with four RBI.
With nine runs total this season, Shutter has worked hard for his team and helped them achieve the seven wins out of 17 wins they have so far. Shutter has started all 17 games, compared to last year, when he only started 24 out of 34 games total.
Shutter only had a batting average of .279 last season, whereas this year he has an average of .365. He also leads the team with 13 RBI. Shutter is second on the team for hits, following senior Paul Sanders’ 20 hits with his own 19. Shutter also follows Sanders with his total bases, with a grand total of 24 compared to Sanders’ 28. Shutter’s on-base percentage is .444.
His fielding statistics are just as impressive as his batting stats. With 11 assists total and 88 putouts, Shutter exhibits his skill on the field as well. Shutter’s fielding percentage is .971 as compared to .882 last season.
The Fire compete again on April 7 against Cornell College in a double header at home at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
