Freshman softballer Britney Salinas has been a high hitter for the Prairie Fire. Salinas leads the team for most runs in a game, sharing the record of three runs per game with junior Katy Coseglia and sophomore Mady Ferris. Salinas set this record in the game against MacMurray College on March 23. The women split that doubleheader, winning the first 13-4 and losing the second 10-11. Salinas has a .289 batting average, with 114 at-bats and 33 hits.
Salinas also has 30 runs on the season. With a .372 on-base percentage, Salinas gets the hits and makes it count. Salinas also has the highest hit by pitch statistics, gleaning two in the game against Lawrence University on April 7, where the women lost both games 4-6 and 3-7.
Not only is Salinas talented on the plate, but she also has skills on the field. With a .962 fielding percentage, it’s clear that Salinas is very consistent. Salinas has 78 total catches, with 69 putouts and six assists. This wraps up the softball team’s season for 2019.
