Fair Herald holds free show

Fair Herald, a five-man indie rock band from the Midwest, performed at Knox College on Tuesday, May 19. Each of the band members is a college freshman, and they were taking the opportunity to play free shows at each other’s respective colleges. Fair Herald drummer Dave Brankin is a freshman at Knox.

The band is playing free shows at colleges in order to get their name out. While they are obviously still developing their sound, the band is technically quite good, producing a clean rock sound reminiscent of The Presidents of the United States of America, The Miggs, and the Rolling Stones. They are also heavily influenced by R.E.M. and Wilco.

About fifty people turned out to hear the band’s concert on the lawn in front of Old Main. After the concert, vocalist and bass player Sean Bacastow, keyboard, harmonica and percussion player Jimmy Bloniarz, and guitarist and vocalist Mike Bellis talked about the band’s plans for the future.

“This summer we’re going to try and play as many Midwest shows as possible, hopefully do some recording through the summer and winter [.…] We’ve been together all through high school; we’re all college freshmen. This is our summer job. We’re trying to make it more of a day to day thing.”
