Letters to the editor: Sexual assault awareness

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Read 292 times. 1 comment.

Bridging together in an act of recognition and awareness, we insist that March 8 be recognized as a day of sexual assault awareness on the Knox College campus. This act of visibility is to counteract the silence and shame associated with sexual assault and to endorse empowerment. We invite all Knox students, faculty and staff to participate in a sexual assault awareness day so that we can strive toward a more informed and safer campus. The green ribbons to be distributed and worn are to represent family or friends who have been victims of sexual assault. The purple ribbons are to be worn by those survivors who feel safe and comfortable identifying as such. Please watch for tabling in the Seymour Gallery during the next week to pick up your ribbon for March 8.

-Magali Roy-Féquière and the Gender and Women’s Studies Department
