Illinois State Treasurer and candidate for United States Senate Alexi Giannoulias meets with Knox junior Jordan Ball, right, during a surprise campaign stop at Innkeeper’s Fresh Roasted Coffee in Galesburg last Friday. Giannoulias, a progressive Democrat, won Tuesday’s statewide Democratic primary over four other candidates and earned the right to face Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL 10th), a five-term Congressman from Highland Park, Ill., who won his party’s primary over five other candidates. On his visit to Galesburg, Giannoulias met with students and local media to discuss his candidacy.
