It has been quite an unusual week in Major League Baseball. Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane uncharacteristically traded young talent for a veteran and the San Diego Padres withdrew a contract offer from all-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman.

Recently, the Prairie Fire offense has taken on stagnant characteristics, being shut out in three of their last four games coming into the final week of play. That trend continued as Knox dropped a 2-0 decision to Beloit College in Saturday’s rematch of a tie game last year, and an 8-1 verdict in Tuesday afternoon’s contest against NAIA opponent Ashford University.

Last weekend, the Knox College women’s soccer team lost two Midwest Conference (MWC) games in Wisconsin and ever since, they have lost.

On Thursday, Oct. 23, Knox traveled to Monmouth, Ill. to take on MWC opponent Monmouth College and was defeated 6-0. The Fighting Scots scored their first goal 15:57 into the game, and at the halfway point, held a 2-0 lead. When the final horn sounded, the Prairie Fire had zero shots ...

Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu recently bemoaned the fact that the NFL is becoming a “pansy” league that is turning into “two-hand touch.”

Polamalu’s comment is in response to recent fines to his Steelers teammate, wide receiver Hines Ward. Ward was fined $5,000 for unnecessary roughness in the Steelers’ Sept. 29th game with the Baltimore Ravens. After the Steelers’ Oct. 5th game, Ward was again fined for unnecessary roughness.
