This speech has a solid foundation, namely that college campuses should be a place of discourse which, of course, involves dissenting opinions; however, between the original statement of this fact in the opening and a brief summary at the end, there was nothing but partisan ranting about the extremist left. Feminists were portrayed as man-hating extremists with a sinister plot to brainwash the nation. Israel was described as "the only non-terrorist nation in the Middle East." The argument was also made that racism is over in America because we have a black President. This was supported by the notion that Haitians and Mexicans and everyone else trying to immigrate to America would never try and go to a country where they would be discriminated against, somehow ignoring the fact that just because America might have better opportunities than some other countries does not mean that we are ideologically perfect. I was also less than pleased about the refusal to address students directly. He called out professors several times, essentially laying down a gauntlet, and was clearly disappointed that no one responded to his goading. The refusal to admit that America might have sexist, racist, homophobic tendencies was absolutely outlandish. Any brief glance of this country's laws, both past and present, would reveal otherwise. It's a shame that an otherwise good point was buried in extremist, willfully ignorant nonsense.

I'd like to add that I realize it was likely not the speaker's choice not to have an open dialogue with students; however, it does not change my disappointment.
