The Prairie Fire football team was an unstoppable force of will in their 28-25 victory on Saturday, shoving their collective foot down the throat of the Lawrence University Vikings. It was an amazing victory, with impressive play on both sides, not to mention the most special of formations -- the special teams.

The Knox College women’s soccer team was hopeful that their games against two Midwest Conference opponents this past weekend would add two contests to their win column, but it did not.

The day before securing the Midwest Conference men’s soccer championship, the Carroll University Pioneers scored three goals in the first 12 minutes to defeat the Knox College Prairie Fire 7-2 in Saturday’s match at Carroll. The Pioneers received a two-goal effort from Andy Prentice and three assists from Dona Lado in the victory, while pushing Knox’s record to 5-7 on the year (1-4 in Midwest Conference play).

Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu recently bemoaned the fact that the NFL is becoming a “pansy” league that is turning into “two-hand touch.”

Polamalu’s comment is in response to recent fines to his Steelers teammate, wide receiver Hines Ward. Ward was fined $5,000 for unnecessary roughness in the Steelers’ Sept. 29th game with the Baltimore Ravens. After the Steelers’ Oct. 5th game, Ward was again fined for unnecessary roughness.
