Player of the Week

Sophomore Alessandro Benelli has been a standout for the men’s soccer team. In week three of their season, Benelli was named the Midwest Conference Defensive Performer of the Week.

In the game against Grinnell, Benelli led a defensive line that only let 11 shots, three on goal, across three games. This effort combined with the rest of the Fire increased the men’s winning streak to five games. Benelli also scored the game-winner with only two minutes remaining.

Benelli has one goal, two assists and a shooting percentage of .091. Starting for all of the Fire’s nine games so far this season and proving very deserving of being on the field. He has improved his shooting percentage from last season, only shooting a .083 in 2017.

The Fire have an overall record of 6-2-1 so far this season and hope to increase their wins on Saturday, September 29 when they play at home versus Ripon College at 11:00a.m.
