Freshman baseballer EJ Roncone just earned the newcomer of the year award in the Midwest Conference. Roncone had a season ERA of 1.92, which ranked him third in the conference. Roncone pitched a 3.29 ERA in five of the Fire’s conference matchups, going 2-2. He struck out 23 in 27.1 innings pitched.

Roncone had 43 strikeouts total on the season, with 56 hits allowed and 28 runs allowed. Roncone’s walks plus hits per inning pitched was 1.25. Roncone has 10 years of experience playing baseball and just finished his freshman season.

Roncone’s best game was at a doubleheader against Monmouth College on April 1, where Roncone recorded 11 strikeouts. Knox won this game 3-1, falling in the next game 2-6. Overall in the series against Monmouth this season, Knox beat the Scots once compared to Monmouth’s three victories over the Fire. Ranking third in the conference in ERA, Roncone is someone to keep an eye on for next season.
