Faculty Meeting Briefing: Faculty votes on year’s priorities

Knox faculty had their first meeting of the year on Monday, Sept. 23, led by newly-elected faculty meeting chair and Knox Chair of Music Nikki Malley.

Malley said she received a multitude of suggestions from faculty regarding what they should spend their time addressing this year. As Malley did not believe it her position to decide which suggestions were more important than others, faculty spent the majority of the meeting voting to determine which topics should be discussed.

Topics included: the possibility of online class registration, the capital projects list, art displayed in campus buildings (how much of it is done by students of color), collaboration between the faculty and career center, how and when professors are evaluated, the possibility of an alternative tenure, equitable teaching loads across departments, how to strategize/prepare for smaller classes and student/family digital privacy.

Among the lowest rated in urgency rated topics included street parking. Among the highest rated included providing resources for students of color and first-generation students.
